ADVERTISER'S CORNER

Aksyon Radyo Bacolod

BROADCASTING from the city of Bacolod, the commercial and political hub in Negros Occidental, dyEZ Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod traces its roots to the city of La Carlota where it first started operations from the administrative building of the then Elizalde-owned Central Azucarera De La Carlota in the 1960s.

The small community radio station, originally having the call sign of dyEN, hosted some of the pioneer broadcasters in the province until the declaration of Martial Law when it was closed down. Several years later, it resumed operations as dyEZ and became the dominant news and music station before the proliferation of FM stations.

By the 1980s, dyEZ shifted its programming to fulltime news and public affairs. With it came the change of name – from Radyo Balita to Radyo Owang – until finally settling on what is widely perceived as the most the appropriate name for a dynamic news and public affairs station: Aksyon Radyo.

Serving a base listenership of at least a million from its primary area of coverage, which are Negros Occidental’s 32 towns and cities, Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod has consistently proven its worth in the most competitive environment of AM broadcasting in the province.

THE MISSION: GOING F.A.R.

Catering to the people’s need for information and entertainment remains to be the primordial mission of Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod.

Fast, accurate and reliable are the keywords for the news and public affairs personnel of the station – a hodgepodge of veterans and newcomers – who are consciously trying, day by day, to keep up with the standards of the excellence in broadcast journalism.

THE STATISTICS

The chart shows the latest survey results as of November 2005.

Commissioned by the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters sa Pilipinas and the Radio Research Council, Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod gained the top spot.

Before the Bacolod survey, however, Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod already came out No. 2 in the survey in Iloilo City conducted December 16 to 19, 2004.

This is the first time that a radio station, which broadcasts from Bacolod City came out number two in its secondary area of coverage.

MORE ACHIEVEMENTS

Aside from these twin accomplishments Aksyon Radyo Bacolod also snatched just last year the KBP Golden Dove awards for Best Public Affairs program for radio.

The morning news and public affairs program, Aksyon Hotline bested competing programs of Manila-based radio stations: Karambola of DWIZ-AM and Birada of RMN’s DZXL-AM.

This is the second Golden Dove for the station. In 2004, the radio comedy soap, Puerti Nga Abiliti, also won a Golden Dove for best radio comedy.
